A valid library card is required to borrow materials and use the public computers at the Moline Public Library.

Persons wishing to obtain a library card will be expected to verify identity and residency. Photo ID and proof of your current Moline residence is required to obtain a library card.

Valid forms of photo identifcation include:

- Driver's license
- Government Issued ID card
- School ID cards (with photo)
- Passport
- Military ID card

The following may be used to verify current address:

- Utility bills
- Current Tax Bill
- Rent receipts or contracts
- Checkbook
- Voter Registration Card

 

Eligibility:

Individuals who reside within the Moline city limits are eligible for a free library card. Individuals who reside outside the Moline city limits, and are not served by another public library, are required by Illinois State law {75 ILCS 16/30-55(60)} to purchase a library card in order to borrow library materials.

Individuals who reside outside the Moline city limits but own property within the city limits are eligible for a free library card.

Children under the age of 13 are eligible for a library card. A signature and proof a residency within the city limits of Moline from parent or legal guardian is required for children who are under 13 years of age.

Circulation staff my refuse to issue or renew a library card if any of the following apply:

  • Unpaid fines on previous accounts
  • Delinquent materials have not be returned from a previous account.
  • Adequate identification and proof of address cannot be supplied
  • False information or identities are given
  • No permanent Moline address can be provided

Fees for Nonresidents:

In order to protect the rights of residents of Moline who pay taxes to support the library, nonresidents will pay for library cards in the same manner as residents. The Moline Public Library Board of Trustees has adopted a annual fee of $145.00 for borrowing privileges extended to nonresidents of Moline. This $145.00 fee represents the average annual household tax paid to the Moline Public Library. Arrangements can be made with the Library to make monthly payments for the $145 non-resident card fee. Effective July 1, 2002, due to a change in Illinois State Law (adopted at 26 Ill. Reg. 5974), student cards will no longer be offered.

Please notify the library with any change of address. Your card must be presented at the time of checkout, renewal, or when requesting a reserve or interlibrary loan item.

A fee of $3.00 is charged to replace any lost, stolen, or damaged library card. Please notify the library in the case of a lost or stolen card.
